About Me
I am a United States Army Retired First Sergeant with 24 years of active service. I have spent the last 15 years working as a supervisor, Drill Sergeant, trainer, leader, instructor and mentor. It wasn't long when I realized that one day I would become a mentor to the adolescent through counseling, coaching and example, which started with earning my Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science.
However after working years in the personnel field it was obvious the next step was to obtain a Master's Degree in Human Resources Management, it was more practical since most of my experience was working the position in the military. Although HR was great, I found working with those that had the desire to help themselves was more rewarding. As fate would have it, I tore my ACL while deployed in Iraq, after surgery and a failing rehabilitation process I gained 60 pounds over my normal body weight coupled with complications in the healing process caused me to reevaluate my career path.
The trauma made me miserable, in fact the pain, anguish and bitterness I was experiencing sent me into a state of depression. Having to get up and go to a place I’ve loved for the past 20 years and no longer able to perform at my best was destroying me. I didn’t know it then but it was rebuilding me.
Let me explain, all thanks to God's grace and favor that intervened and set me up for a comeback. Long story short, being requested to teach bible classes at my church and selected as the first female assigned to a University as the Senior ROTC Instructor for the Army, jump started my healing process. God blessed me to be healed mentally and physically, it took almost a year but I could walk upstairs, run with my Soldiers, and even road march without pain. I never felt better, I was motivated and joy was back, I was doing what I loved so much. Feeling healthy I was inspired and motivated to use what I had lost, so completed my first of five half marathons.
I knew I wanted to help people and I knew that there were so many like me that needed help with their physical and mental needs. My next step was to obtain my certification as a Certified Personal Trainer. I believe and know, Life isn’t easy, it takes a touch from God for a person to be inspired and healed to achieve their goals, I pray I have the opportunity to help someone willing to help themselves to reach their goals.
